When the toil of life is over

Death is everywhere. It gets closer and closer to us each day. We see mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, and sometimes even children, going at all ages. No matter how often it occurs, and how close it gets, we can never get use to the haunting spectacle of death.  Hebrews 9:24 tells us, “…it is appointed unto men once to die.”

I’ve been recollecting with uneasiness the number of people, including close friends, from my generation who have gone on before me. It makes you wake up, if you haven’t already, to the reality of our mortality and date with death.

Death is not a subject many people like to talk about; they prefer to ignore it and let it happens to whoever it will – young and old. Not that they can do something about it. It is such a crushing enemy, it stifles your energy to plan for the future, so many think it is better  to go on living your life without pausing to remember we live at death’s door.

There are some who are bent on living life to the fullest because they know not when the enemy comes knocking. They engage in all manner of pleasures, especially the forbidden ones, because they want “to live it up” before their demise. They see life as something to enjoy while it lasts.

On the other hand, others live as if they will never die. They live like supermen, like immortals. They see the flesh withering away each day going back to the earth from whence it came; they see the futility of life, and all its accompanying weaknesses that will one day come home to their reality, yet they live as if they have eternal life.

Those who are adamant that they are enjoying their lives to the maximum and the ones who are living as if they will never die, can be painted with the same brush – their life is meaningless, if there is no place for YAHWEH, the God of the Bible. I am not talking about any god.  I am not talking about something called god, be it from any religion or a stick or a stone. I am talking about the ONLY TRUE and LIVING GOD – YAHWEH. Without Him in your life, there is no hope and your destiny’s worth is zero, nothing! It would be as if you were never born. A bigoted statement, some may say, but then one cannot apologise because the God of the Bible says He knows of no other (true) God beside Him. There are many gods out there, but there is only ONE TRUE GOD – YAHWEH.

Isa. 44:6, “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: I am the first and I am the last;    besides me there is no god. Verse 8, “Is there a God besides me? There is no Rock; I know not any.”

Isa 45:5,  I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me.”

Therefore, when the toil of this rocky, narrow, and tough road we call life is over, the hope for humanity lies in the God of the Bible. When death comes calling, it is ONLY the grace of God made possible through the shed blood of the Christ offers life – life eternal and escape from another enemy called the second death from which life will be no more.

Before the toil of life is over for you, remember the duty you have before God. Ecc. 12:13, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”

I pray earnestly that if the GREAT God had called you that the answer was, and is, a resounding YES! With that, the Holy Spirit of God dwells in you and you are going to be raised from the dead on the last day, at the sound of the trumpet – free from the enemy death, for all time!  For more on this subject, download FREE, our booklet AFRAID TO DIE?
