Part 2 - Who is the Christ?

Article 1 A Prophet Like Moses

"'I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him." Deut 18:18-19

The following is a list that clearly demonstrates why Jesus is that prophet. Many things on the list a man could not make happen. The odds of this happening are astronomical.

Jesus was born in poverty and had to escape to Egypt to save His life. Jesus was born outside in a manger and had to escape to Egypt to save His life. For Moses and Jesus the ruler of the land destroyed all the children that were his age so that a rebellion could not occur.

At the time God appointed - Moses was sent to deliver his people. "Then He said to Abram: "Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years." Genesis 15:13 This is why the people must have had an expectation of a deliver.

At the set time God appointed - the Messiah was to come and the people expected the Messiah at the time of Jesus because of the Daniel prophecy.

"Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy. "Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times. "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate." Daniel 9:24-27

This is why you have the expectation of the Messiah at the time of Christ.

"And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said: "Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word; For my eyes have seen Your salvation Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel." Luke 2:25-32

Now as the people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not" Luke 3:15

Moses was a prophet, priest, lawgiver, teacher and leader of men. Jesus also filled all these roles but no other prophet has been given to do that by God.

Moses performed many signs and miracles including leprosy being healed and thus confirmed his ministry. So did Jesus. Both fasted for forty days and had spiritual battles on the mountains.

Both confronted demonic powers and subdued them.

Moses said the blood of the Firstborn will save you alive and so did Jesus.

Moses freed them from slavery and pagan religions. Jesus saved them from being bound to the law – to sin.

Moses raised his hands and moved the waters. Jesus moved his hand and calmed the sea.

Moses baptized them in the sea and Jesus baptized them with fire.

Moses said he came to do God’s will and so did Jesus.

Moses appointed 70 elders to lead Israel. Jesus appointed 70 men to teach the people.

Moses sent 12 spies into the land. Jesus sent out 12 Apostles.

Moses talked face to face with God and so did Jesus. Moses face shone with the glory of God and so did Jesus when he was transfigured on the Mount.

Moses brought them the Word of God, the law written in stones.

Jesus brought them the Word of God, and the law of God in the flesh and written in their hearts. Hebrews 8:10

Moses conquered their great enemies the Amalekites and the Egyptians by raising his arms.

Jesus conquered our great enemies of sin and death by raising his arms on the cross.

Moses lifted up the serpent to heal his people. Jesus raised his arms to heal all believers.

Moses taught them how to worship God and built a temple for them to worship God.

Jesus teaches us how to worship God and is building a temple for us to worship God.

Moses delivered them to the promised land – after a long delay.

Jesus will deliver us into the promised land – after a long delay.

On the 14th day of Nisan, the Passover was offered and Moses freed all who would trust him. Jesus did so too. On the 18th day, on the feast of firstfruits, Moses brought about the resurrection of the children of Israel by bringing them up out of the sea. On the feast of firstfruits, Jesus ensured the resurrection of all believers by rising from the dead, the grave, and becoming the Firstfruits of the dead. Both victories were known in the morning watch. On the fiftieth day after passing through the sea on Pentecost Moses gave them the Law of God to lead the people of Israel to all righteousness. On the fiftieth day after rising from the dead Jesus gave the people His Holy Spirit as a guide to all righteousness.

No other prophet was like Moses as Jesus is. He is the one that was too come. This is what Steven said, "This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, 'The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear.' "This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the Angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, the one who received the living oracles to give to us, "whom our fathers would not obey, but rejected. And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt," Acts 7:37-38

During the spiritual leadership of Moses and Jesus his brothers were ungrateful and rebelled against them. Both of those generations were lost. One died in the wilderness and one was destroyed in AD 70.

The Prophet like Moses is one you SHALL listen to. It is not enough to know who it is – you must listen to Him. He said, "For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." Matthew 26:28 Have you been listening? Are you following His words?

The invitation He left us is, "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself." John 12:32

All peoples means everyone not just a particular family but anyone, even a sinner who repents. Jesus was lifted up when He was crucified and again when he was resurrected and the promise is sure.
